Week 5

Internet radio

Internet radio is a great way to access free music and radio programs online. This was you can listen to a radio program, or songs, from anywhere in the world. Commonly internet radio is distributed via streaming technology, where the audio is transported over a network and then reassembled and played within seconds - this delay is referred to as a lag and something you will experience when listening to online radio.

Features include listening to songs or programs, creating playlists, exporting to a website or webpage, and subscribe to updates and services.

Resources

- ABC
- Napster (You may recognise the name Napster as it used to be a file sharing service. The name was bought out to rebrand this online streaming service)
- Last.fm (does require a login)
- MySpace Music
- Grooveshark

Activity

Tweet about online radio. Can you find uses for this in the library? Do you think you would use it personally? What ways would you market these services?
